Here are some key distinctions:
The project manager tells, not asks, and holds all the accountabilities of the Scrum team. The project manager holds the financial accountability, the requirements, the plan. The project manager will monitor the execution, and also micro manage the work of the developers.
The Agile coach asks, not tells. The Agile coach helps the team understand they own the delivery themselves. The Agile coach will hold the mirror up against the team so that the team understand what completed looks like and encourage them to figure out what is stopping them get there and increasing their throughput.
The bottom line? The Agile coach is a guide on the side not a voice from above.
