Biggest mistake in sprint planning

For instance, imagine a team that’s consistently managed to complete six product backlog items per Sprint. Then, for some inexplicable reason, they decide they’re going to complete 10 in the upcoming Sprint. This leap in commitment, without any substantial changes in capacity, resources, or strategy, sets the team up for failure.

This self-sabotage is absolutely destructive. It erodes confidence in the process and undermines the team’s faith in their own abilities to deliver.

Always under promise and over deliver. Being realistic with your commitments and then surpassing them is a much healthier and motivating cycle for your team. It builds confidence, increases faith in the process, and enhances team morale.
