The PSM II or Advanced Professional Scrum Master course is an experience where you get to reflect on what you have done, what you have learned, and to acquire more advanced skills, techniques, and tools that will allow you to grow to the next level of your profession.
It also affords you space, time, and discussion that allows you to think about where you would like to evolve next.
We don’t encourage people to do a PSM course and immediately escalate to the PSM II course, this isn’t about acquiring certification, it requires a degree of time invested in working as a scrum master for you to fully benefit from the more advanced course.
The course matters in developing your skills and capabilities, but the certification matters to recruiters and hiring managers alike because it validates the knowledge you have acquired.
Scrum.Org are renowned for having the most difficult assessments in the Scrum certification world, so be prepared for a lot of nuances in the assessment, really testing your understanding and knowledge of the PSM II content.
You will need to reflect deeply on your stance as an agile leader who serves the team, the product owner, and the organization. You’re going to need to choose the answers that are useful in helping to guide your team to a solution.
There are a lot of people who hold the PSM (Professional Scrum Master) certification from Scrum.Org or a CSM (Certified Scrum Master) certification from Scrum Alliance. A lot.
There are very few people who hold the PSM II certification from Scrum.Org and even fewer who hold the A-CSM certification from Scrum Alliance. You would be a part of a very select group of people who have demonstrated a willingness to officially advance their knowledge and skills as a professional scrum master.
Holding a more advanced certification demonstrates that you live the value of continuous improvement and help distinguish you from other scrum masters who are applying for roles or contract opportunities.
It may even push you into a more senior scrum master salary bracket and offer you a leadership, coaching, and mentoring role to junior scrum masters in the organization.
So, to answer the question, there are 3 major gains that come from attending a PSM II course.
