What is Scrum in 60 seconds

Scrum is built around three roles or ‘accountabilities’, three artefacts that are each tethered to a commitment, and five events.

Accountabilities:

• Scrum Master
• Product Owner
• Developer

Artefacts

• Product Backlog
• Sprint Backlog
• Potentially releasable Product Increment

Scrum Events

• Sprint planning
• Sprint
• Daily Scrum
• Sprint Review
• Sprint Retrospective

All these parts pivot around the five Scrum values:

• Focus;
• Respect;
• Openness;
• Courage; and
• Commitment.

Embracing empiricism

Scrum embraces empiricism – transparency, inspection, and adaptation based on data and evidence - which lets everyone on the team understand the process and progress.

It gives us the means to inspect, adapt, and learn in short feedback loops. That way, we grow and mature as fast as possible while delivering a complete, working, and valuable product.

In a nutshell, Scrum is a lightweight framework that aids the Scrum team to learn and mature quickly to deliver a working, valuable project to a customer or stakeholder.
